To determine if your Kestrel needs a new impeller, turn
the unit on, and hold it behind a computer screen, tv, or other electronic
device. If the display shows any value, then the impeller needs to
be replaced.
To replace an impeller, simply press on the outside of the impeller
housing and slide it out. Snap a new impeller in the same way, with
the small triangle matching up with the engraved triangle on the
Kestrel unit's case. Impellers should read accurately for approximately
400 hours of normal use. Using the Kestrel to measure high speed
winds will wear the impeller prematurely, and will require more frequent
replacement.
